Ivan's professional trajectory as a theoretical physicist and bona fide rocket scientist, along with his unique ability to bring great minds together, makes him the driving force behind Hypernet. While running large scale simulations on extended theories of gravity for his doctoral research, Ivan realized that the bottleneck of innovation in nearly every scientific field is the lack of available parallel computation. This inspired him to work with Todd Chapman and Daniel Maren on the development of a brand new parallel programming model that could bypass previous resource and technological hurdles to solve problems that were once intractable. Ivan is excited at the prospect of a whole new wave of innovation, across scientific fields, that can be unleashed using this tool. Ivan also plays the French Horn and enjoys ballroom dancing.
Todd Chapman contributes experience in aerospace engineering, computational mathematics, and computer programming, along with a unique ability to creatively draw on insights from adjacent fields such as robotics. This led him to develop the theory behind Hypernet’s HyperCore algorithm, and then actually create it. Todd is especially interested in developing fault tolerant algorithms and stable neural network architectures, and so it is no surprise that he became a Hypernet cofounder. His long list of achievements includes a Stanford University PhD, the Department of Defense Science and Engineering Fellowship, work on NASA’s Cassini mission, modeling work for TARDEC, and more. Todd also enjoys collecting first editions, and sometimes he even reads them.
Iain Carson, Director of Marketing Content, comes to the Hypernet team with a background of over 10 years of experience in film and television production, including working for CBS and Lionsgate, and over 4 years of marketing experience with The Walt Disney Company. In addition to managing marketing activities, he is excited to bring engaging multimedia experiences to the Hypernet community. When he’s not creating visual content for Hypernet, Iain enjoys making short films, collecting Star Wars memorabilia, and 3D printing.
Jennifer Hudson, Director of Communications, brings social scientific expertise to her work as communication and market strategist as well as her collaboration with the blockchain team on marketplace design. She has a PhD in political science/political theory from Columbia University, a Master’s degree in international affairs from Sciences Po Paris, and a BA from UCLA. Prior to joining us at Hypernet, her research focused on the dynamics of bureaucracy and democracy and the ways in which intentionally freedom-enhancing reforms can produce contradictory unintended results. Jennifer is articulating and helping to implement a vision of the future in which Hypernet’s business model is aligned with users’ intentions, needs, values, and vision of themselves. Aside from social theory and philosophy, she enjoys ballet, pilates, and listening to talk radio in French or German.
Matt brings expertise in business strategy, market development, and the operational aspects of entrepreneurship. He completed an MPhil and PhD in anthropology at the University of Cambridge, focused on statistical analysis of human evolutionary biology, and a JD at Stanford Law School. As a data science expert, Matt will aid the business development team by spearheading efforts in various data science market segments, in addition to his legal and operations work. In his free time, Matt enjoys crossfit, painting, and chess.
M.J. Ma brings a strong triple-threat background in computer science, design, and psychology to her work as our new head of product. She holds a Master’s in Computer Science from Stanford, a Master of Science in Communications Design from Pratt Institute, and a B.S. in Symbolic Systems (Computer Science, Psychology, Philosophy, Linguistics) from Stanford. M.J. also brings over 7 years of experience in UI/UX and product design to the team. She is dedicated to ensuring an excellent user experience for our customers. This is extremely important to us as universal accessibility is a central component of the Hypernet Labs vision of the future.
John focuses on business development, team collaboration, strategy, and building a product that solves big problems for Hypernet’s customers. Before joining Hypernet, John was a Senior Associate in the Venture Capital fund Sovereign’s Capital, working on the due diligence/investment team, assisting with portfolio management, and performing a number of other roles related to fund operations. He previously served as a Management Associate at Siloam Hospitals (IDX:SILO), and as Marketing Manager on Summit Healthcare’s founding team in Jakarta. John studied economics at Covenant College and spends his free time training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, writing and recording music, and designing games.
Fernando Fuentes de la Parra obtained two degrees from Penn State’s Schreyer Honors College: a B.S. in Energy Engineering and a B.S. in Energy Business & Finance. Afterwards, he ventured to the San Francisco Bay Area to work and learn with the best. Fernando has held business development positions at SunEdison, SunPower, and Lightsource BP, focusing on ideating business models, go-to-market strategies, and pricing mechanisms for new products and services, particularly energy storage systems integrated to solar systems. His experience in business development and project finance, as well as his engineering degree, have allowed him to act as a bridge between highly technical teams and the customers they serve. Among other things, Fernando loves trail running and triathlons.
Steven Ingram is a senior software engineer for Hyperdyne, currently building products and algorithms that will support decentralized applications, including those that could be used for deep learning for computer vision. Before joining Hyperdyne, Steven had supported development, integration and test for the F-35 at Edwards AFB and then transferred to Space Systems in Sunnyvale to research machine learning and deep learning applications and algorithms for Space Situational Awareness. He has degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and the University of Texas at Austin. He likes developing software for motion capture as well social dancing, most notably Lindy Hop and Waltz.
Tran Nguyen studied Computer Science and Engineering with a minor in Economics at UC Davis. She was a software team lead for the UC Davis Hyperloop Team, in the first leadership team for SacHacks, the first intercollegiate hackathon in the Sacramento area. While at Davis, she worked for a startup as a software development intern, working across the tech stack to make web and mobile applications. Prior to the internship, she worked as a web development student in an Ophthalmology lab. When she’s not developing software, you can find her at a concert, at the zoo, or on a long trip.
Conrad received his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Notre Dame in 2018. While there he worked with the Cooperative Computing Laboratory to bring cloud functionality to WorkQueue: a framework for master-worker applications that can span thousands of cores. In 2017 he was selected as one of only ten students to take part in the inaugural Silicon Valley Semester program. During his internship he explored finely tuned, parallel solutions for large scale numerical methods and wrote a linear algebra library for Prolog. He has an affinity for system programming and tries to inflict his purist Linux ideologies on every piece of hardware he sees. Away from the keyboard he loves to put the top down on his Volkswagen Cabrio and blast funk music.
Dan Luo is a junior frontend engineer, currently focused on building the user interface of the Hypernet portal. Dan studied Computer Science and Japanese at the University of California Santa Barbara. He later attended App Academy, where he learned to develop websites and applications. When he’s not fully focused on the Hypernet user experience, you can find him translating texts from Japanese and playing video games.
